The club and the land it sits on.
Pelican Pointe is a gated golf community on 1,000 acres of live oaks, lakes, and protected preserve just south of downtown Venice.
Built by Sam Rodgers, opened in 1995.
The community was developed by Sam Rodgers across 1,000 acres of live oaks, wetlands, and meandering streams. The original eighteen holes, designed by Ted McAnlis, opened in 1995, and the property has grown to 1,354 homes inside a single gated entrance.
The 22,000-square-foot clubhouse sits at the center as the community's social hub. The club is known for its southern hospitality, and Sarasota County residents have named it a Reader's Choice winner every year since 2001.
Wildlife everywhere you look.
A good part of the property is natural preserve and wetland, and it's full of life. Bald eagles nest here, gopher tortoises dig along the fairways, and an alligator or two keeps to the water near the 18th. Wading birds work the lake edges all day.
We share these thousand acres with the animals that were here first, and ask members and guests to respect the habitat. The club is always glad to add a good wildlife photo to its collection.
Bald Eagle
The national symbol nests on the property and is often spotted right from the Grille Room.
Great Egret
A tall white heron once hunted for its plumes, now protected and common along the lakes.
Gopher Tortoise
An endangered, ancient species — abundant along the Hatchett Creek nine.
American Alligator
Found along the 18th hole; the species has fully recovered from endangered status.
Great Blue Heron
Stands over three feet tall and fishes the shallows at the water's edge.
Florida Bobcat
A rare sight in a populated area, usually seen at dawn or dusk in the preserve.
A place that still feels like Florida.
Between the lakes, the oaks, and the preserve, the grounds are as much a reason to be here as the golf. Come see them for yourself.
